Oxycontin's main ingredient is derived from opium much like that of heroin. The addictive affects that it has on the person who takes it is extreme. When I was in high school, oxycontin would float around like candy. The feeling that it gave you was very powerful and it didn't have the intimidating face of a needle. It was easy, it was just a pill. I have seen that particular drug ruin so many lives. As I have gotten older, old friends of mine are either still on it or have died. I recently heard somewhere that prescription drug abuse is killing more people then all other street drugs combined.

That is a scary thought since the supplier of prescription drugs is not some cartel down at the border or middle eastern drug lord, but rather it is us, it is available right when you open the bathroom mirror. Gran-it, only some of the drugs found in our medicine cabinets are addictive and destructive.  But the availability of these drugs is a concern. It is important for all parents to safeguard their medicine cabinets with a lock or keep their medicines in a hidden place.
